Simple Tips to Ease the Seasonal Transition

October, we're in love with you.

How beautiful has this breezy sunshine felt? Suddenly the wind shifts and an autumnal magic has permeated the coastal air.

Alas, the fall shift also brings declining daylight and a looming grey forecast. Whether you rejoice in the return of routine and hibernation - or long for an endless summer - here are a few ways to weather the fall transition...

  • Reflect on your most memorable summer experiences and what made you feel blissfully at peace. Try to channel those thoughts and emotions into the moments of your day that might seem tedious or tough to pull through. If visuals help, print a collective of hard copy memories to post at your work space.

  • Consider a Himalayan salt lamp for enhancing negative ions and mood balance. Use grounding essential oils that promote clarity and concentration (like clary sage, peppermint, cypress, vetiver).

  • Listen to soothing music. Perhaps the "Pumpkin Spice State of Mind" playlist?

  • Carve out time for plant-powered meal prep and nourishing fall dishes. Try a blended coconut curry cauliflower soup, hearty veggie chili bowl or creamy pumpkin pie smoothie.

  • Integrate time to 'do you'. If you've entered a new school year or the post-summer work swing, remember to prioritize your well-being. With 24 hours in a day, strive to dedicate at least 30-60 minutes for mindful activity.

  • On the flipside, don't beat yourself up for leaving your to-do list unchecked, missing a workout or sleeping in past yoga. Give yourself a chance to transition and flow into the new season.

  • Scope out some fall-inspired activities before plunging into full hermit mode. Check out your local listings for seasonal markets, art exhibits, mushroom foraging, live music and community events. Then cozy up with a paperback or old wistful flick (Harry Potter, anyone/everyone? Just me?).

  • Connect with nature. Even if this means bundling up for a trail run, wearing wool socks to the beach or a fleece shell on a stand-up paddle board. Spending QT in our PNW playground helps clear the mind and replenish the spirit away from screens.

Happy autumn!

spring cleaning for the body + spirit

The season for celebrating renewed surroundings (and headspace) is finally upon us. Thank goddess for the spring equinox, cause it's been a looong winter. Here are a few tips to (gently) awaken the body and mind.

Start your day with a glass of warm water. Infuse it with hydrating cucumber, cleansing lemon or detoxifying rosemary (your liver will love ya). Fresh mint and berries take it to the next level.

Practice self-care. Let the first few sacred moments of the morning be just for you. Integrate one small ritual a day that supports your well-being (making a smoothie, moving your bod, breathing fresh air). If you're stretched thin by all the demands, scheduling some self-care is often the key to balance.

Go play by the ocean. We're fortunate to live on this beautiful coastline, so we should probably hang out by (or in) the ocean whenever possible. Research has shown that simply being near the sea has a calming, grounding effect on our brain waves.

Meditate. Unplugging from the world is increasingly tough in our digital age. Take a minute to sit quietly outside and tune in to birds chirping, the soft breeze blowing and plants blossoming. This helps create a lasting sense of ease to flow through your day.

Spring cleaning for the spirit. Now is a great time to let go of what no longer serves you. De-cluttering your virtual and physical spaces will help alleviate stress and bring on uninterrupted sleep. Time to thin out the closet and social media feeds.

Recipe for sunshine. When spring showers are trickling down, you can always turn to nutrients that have a sunny effect. We adore turmeric for its health-promoting properties (reducing inflammation & supporting immunity). Supplementing with vitamin D-3 drops can also give you a boost on those post-winter grey days. When the rain won't quit, there's always an indoor sun salutation to be practiced.

Happy spring transition!
